Beautiful Lavender Fields in New York

When you think of lavender fields, I am sure you’re automatically thinking of France. With many beautiful lavender fields around the world, I was eager to find some lavender fields nearby home. I learned about Lavender by the Bay right outside New York City, along with several other lavender fields near me. So if you landed on this page by searching lavender fields by me and you’re in the New York area, you have found the right place!

How To Get to the Lavender Fields on Long Island, New York

Let’s start with fields of lavender in my hometown of Long Island! Visiting the lavender fields on Long Island is the perfect day trip or weekend getaway from New York City! Lavender by the Bay farm has two locations. They have lavender fields in Calverton and their original 17-acre farm all the way out on the North Fork of Long Island.

The most popular of the two lavender fields is their East Marion location which is about a 3-hour drive from Mid-town NYC. If that sounds too far from you, their Calverton location is about 1 and a half hours from Midtown, NYC. The Calverton location is also right near the Tanger Outlet and Splish Splash, so you can go shopping and enjoy the waterpark!

Having/renting a car would be the best way to get to the lavender fields. However, if you don’t have a car, you can take the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) to Greenport and take an Uber/Lyft or rent bikes for the East Marion location.

When to Visit Lavender Fields in New York

Lavender by the Bay grows both English and French lavender, and Governors Island grows 4 different varieties. The French lavender is usually in full bloom during the first two weeks of July, however, the weather is always a huge factor each year. The English lavender blooms in mid-June and mid-September.

If the lavender fields have already been clipped, you can always check out the sunflowers on Long Island – which are one of the best summer flowers.

What to Expect When Visiting Lavender by the Bay

Being one of the largest lavender farms in the USA, you can imagine they get quite busy! We arrived around 11 AM on a Sunday at the East Marion, and there were tons of cars lined up. This is easily one of the best things to do on Long Island in the summer!

Once arriving, you are encouraged to walk through the fields of lavender, but please remember to be respectful of the plants and nature around them! Do not crush the flowers.

While walking through the fields, don’t be surprised to find tons of bees hard at work and other critters. Don’t worry, though, they only care about the flowers!

The fields are quite large, so after taking all your insta-worthy photos through the Lavender fields, take a seat in the many chairs placed all around the fields, and just soak in nature!

Overall, visiting Lavender by the Bay is a really cool experience and a top instagrammable spot on Long Island!

Before leaving, don’t forget to check out Lavender by the Bay’s gift shop. They sell tons of high-quality lavender products such as soaps, dried lavender, and essential oils. Additionally, they even have bunches of fresh Lavender to take home. Buying fresh lavender bunches is great for photos, too!

Things to Know Before Visiting New York Lavender Fields

Now that you know some of the most beautiful lavender fields to visit in New York and on Long Island, here is some practical information to know before visiting.

  • When visiting the lavender fields make sure to wear close-toed shoes. The ground can be uneven, and you are walking through a garden, after all.
  • Don’t forget your sunscreen and ladies, bring your sun hats. There is little to no shade since lavender grows in full sun.
  • As I mentioned with the Lavender by the Bay fields, there will be insects flying around. Consider putting some bug spray on before visiting.
  • None of these farms offer food or drinks, however, you will be able to find food on both Governors Island and by the nearby vineyards on Long Island. I would still recommend bringing a reusable water bottle with you since it’s hot.
  • Don’t forget your camera for all the lavender photos!
  • Do not pick the lavender or step over the bushes.
  • Only visit the lavender farms during business hours.

    • Hey Lauren! We stayed for a little over an hour and then went to a vineyard after. We bought fresh lavender to bring home, which can then be dried out and used as decoration in a vase. They also have tons of other lavender products in their gift shop! Hope this helps!
