Valensole Lavender Fields – Provence, France

The Valensole Plateau is synonymous with lavender, and for good reason. It’s here you’ll find the most beautiful fields of lavender in Provence, France (and in the world) – those that are seemingly endless as they stretch across the landscape—interrupted only by fields of flowering sage and sunflowers.
The most famous fields are those around the village of Valensole itself, and they’re not difficult to find. Head along to Lavandes Angelvin, one of the most well-known distilleries in the area, and you’ll find plenty of neighboring farms in this area, too. You can’t pick the lavender, but bouquets are available to purchase in the distilleries or roadside stalls, alongside beautiful lavender soaps, honey, and oil.
And if you head nearby to Domaine Les Grandes Marges, you’ll find lavender ice cream too! The fields are accessible anytime, but the best time to see the lavender in Provence is between late June and mid-July.
Entrance is free, but supporting the lavender farms is always appreciated. There are plenty of places to eat nearby, particularly in Valensole village. And if you’re looking for somewhere unique to stay, book a room at Château du Grand Jardin. To get there, having your own car is best, but there are buses available from Manosque to Valensole.

Fields of Lavender – Luberon, Provence, France

The Luberon is a rural region in Provence, Southern France, famous for its hilltop villages, colorful markets, and beautiful lavender fields. The Luberon is not far from Avignon, where you can rent a car or book a guided tour to visit these lavender fields.
In general, the lavender fields of Provence bloom from the end of June to mid-August. The Luberon region, in particular, is best explored at the beginning of July.
The Luberon is a tourist destination all year round, but it is especially crowded during the lavender season. Visitors are not allowed to pick the lavender, and some fields even have fences, especially those around the iconic Abbey of Sénanque.
While you are around, don’t miss the villages of Gordes and Roussillon, which are not far from Sénanque Abbey. For a unique provencal stay, book at La Bastide des Demoiselles, a charming traditional house near Roussillon converted into a bed & breakfast.

Sault Lavender Fields – Provence, France

Sault in Provence is one of the most famous villages boasting lavender fields in France. This town and area, as a whole, is where the annual Lavender Festival is celebrated every August. As such, Sault is often called the Lavender Capital of France. The best way to reach Sault is to drive, and it is around 2 hours away from the coast and famous cities like Avignon.
In Sault itself, the area is literally teeming with rows of lavender from the road known as Route du Mont Ventoux to hikes through the Chemin des Lavandes. Since these fields are mostly in the wild, you can go at any time of the day, but the best time would be in the morning since there are fewer people. Here, you can freely pick lavenders at a moderate amount. The lavenders generally bloom from late June to late August.
The village of Sault is also a great place to base yourself and enjoy other activities. A lovely hotel to check out in the area would be Hotel Belvue. From the village, you can walk around and enjoy the historic vibe, visit local distilleries, try the local cuisine in Le Petit Jardin, or even hike the trails toward Mont Ventoux.

Lavender By the Bay – Long Island, NY, USA

One of the best places to see lavender on the East Coast is right in New York! With over 80,000 plants, Lavender By the Bay is one of the largest lavender farms in the USA and the best farms in New York!
Their first 17-acre farm is located in East Marion, Long Island, NY. It takes about 3 hours by car from Manhattan. They also opened a second (smaller) farm in Calverton, Long Island, which is a little less than 2 hours from NYC. While both are great, the original field is the most popular. The best way to get to either field is by car.
The best time to visit Lavender By the Bay is between mid-June and mid-September. They grow both French and English lavender. The largest French bloom happens around the first two weeks of July. There are tons of photo props to enjoy, although U-pick is not available. Additionally, they have a farm stand with tons of lavender products to take home.
After your visit, explore more of the North Fork. This is where some of the top vineyards and here are more fun things to do!

Lavender Valley – Oregon, USA

Situated at the base of Oregon’s tallest mountain, Mount Hood, you’ll find the incredible Lavender Valley. With dramatic views as you drive the Mount Hood Scenic Byway to arrive at the farm, it is easily one of the most beautiful lavender fields in the world.
The best part of Lavender Valley is the unmatched views of the marvelous Mount Hood, towering above the lavender fields.
This view is quite popular, and for good reason, as it offers the best views of the flowers and the mountain. The blooming season varies, depending on the type of lavender, but is typically between mid-June through mid-July.
For the best bloom in the main field, directly in front of Mount Hood, visit between mid-July and mid-August.
The farm opens for the season in May and closes in September. It’s open daily from 10 AM until 5 PM. Admission is $5 USD per person.
If you want to bring some lavender home, Lavender Valley offers U-Pick, but only in designated areas.
While in the area, spend some time hiking in the Mount Hood Wilderness at Tamanawas Falls or McNeil Point, or enjoy the wineries in the Hood River Valley.

Located in the quaint North Carolina town of Chapel Hill, Lavender Oaks Farm is easily one of the best places to see fields of lavender in the Tar Heel State! Their farm spans 60 acres, and they grow 9 different varieties of gorgeous lavender.
The farm is designed for private events such as weddings; however, from the end of May through July, they open the farm up to the public to enjoy. During this time, you can set up a picnic in the fields and take photos to your heart’s content. Additionally, they offer U-pick Lavender in June! It costs $10 for a bundle (about 25 stems).
Admission is $5 per person ages 12 and up. You can pay upon arrival at Farm Shoppe with cash, credit card, or Venmo. Don’t forget to also peak inside their shop, where they have tons of additional lavender products! The owner is also the sweetest!
The best way to get to Lavender Oaks Farm is by car or by taking Uber/Lyft if you don’t have a car. The farm is located within 1 hour of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill.

Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm – Wisconsin, USA

When traveling to Door County, Wisconsin, it is highly recommended to take a day trip to the lavender farms on Washington Island. To reach the Fragrant Isle lavender farm, it is necessary to take a ferry from Northpoint Pier on the tip of the Door County Peninsula to Washington Island.
The ferry carries passenger vehicles, so the easiest way to reach the fields is with a car. Otherwise, it is recommended to rent a bicycle or scooter upon arriving at the ferry dock. It is just under 4 miles from the port to the lavender fields.
Fragrant Isle is the largest lavender farm in the Midwest and opens annually from May through October. Daily hours for the 2022 season have not yet been posted, but in the past, they were open from 9 AM – 4 PM.
There is a lavender store selling everything from lotions to sweet treats, and it’s open on weekends from 10 AM – 2 PM during the off-season and regular hours during the season.
It is possible to pick lavender during the season. The farm will provide scissors and wrap the lavender bunch when finished. There is an admission fee of $10 for adults and $5 for children. Children 3 and under are free.
In addition to their “All Things Lavender” store, there is also a restaurant on-site, Le Café, serving sandwiches and salads. There’s also a distillery serving wine and craft beer while overlooking the lavender fields. This is a good choice for lunch.
The farm grows 14 different types of lavender and is planning to have 30,000 plants in the next 3 years!
Those wanting to explore Washington Island shouldn’t miss Schoolhouse Beach and the Washington Island Stavkirke (a replica Scandinavian church built by locals). There is a cute bookstore in town, as well as boutiques and restaurants.
Return to the mainland for the night (only guests can stay on Washington Island overnight) and head to Fish Creek. Book a room at the White Gull in and call it a day.

Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm – Maui, Hawaii, USA

One of the coolest lavender farms you can visit in the USA is located on the Hawaiian Island of Maui! What makes this lavender farm so special is that it is located near the summit of Mt. Haleakala (over 10,000 ft!).
These fields cover 13.5 acres at an elevation of around 4000 ft.! The farm has around 55,000 lavender plants and 20 different varieties of lavender to enjoy during a visit!
The best time to see lavender blooms is during the summer, however, the farm has several varieties that bloom all year. The farm is currently open to the public Friday – Monday from 10 AM to 4 PM. General Admission is $3 USD per person and $2 USD for Seniors, Military, and Kama’aina. They also have additional gardens and a Lavender gift shop.

White Oak Lavender Farm & The Purple WOLF Vineyard – Harrisonburg, Virginia, USA
Nestled in the Shenandoah Valley, White Oak Lavender Farm is one of the best places to see lavender in Virginia while also experiencing a vineyard simultaneously! With over 8,000 lavender plants and around 3,000 grapevines, you are in for the ultimate experience!
From wine tastings, farm tours, lectures, classes, and their gift shop, there are tons to enjoy, along with their lavender farm. You can even set up your own picnic and order food in (no outside alcohol). In their “Discovery area,” you can also see farm animals, play on a life-size checkerboard, play in a labyrinth, distillery, and drying barn, and view their additional gardens and pond.
Additionally, they offer U-pick for their lavender around June and provide scissors with instructions. They charge $8 USD for 50 stems, then $0.15/stem for any additional stems.
Admission is $3 per person; Children under age 2 are free or a family group for $12 USD. They also offer tours and lots of additional events throughout the year that include live music and food.

Lavender Farms of Pozos – Mexico

One of the best lavender fields around the world can be found outside the small Mexican town of Mineral de Pozos. Lavender Farms of Pozos can easily be reached by car or taxi. If you take a taxi, make sure they wait for you, or you might not be able to get back into town.
Admission is 30 pesos per person (about $1.50). Tours are available in Spanish, or you can choose to walk the grounds on your own. They are open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM.
If you choose to walk the fields, be careful of where you step, and do not pick the lavender. You can take as many pictures as you want, though. On-site, there is a restaurant and shop with products made with lavender. They even have lavender beer!
The best time to visit the farm is from June to August, when the bloom season is.
The town of Mineral de Pozos is nice but very quiet. If you’re looking for more things to do and great restaurants, head over to San Miguel de Allende.

Bridestowe Lavender Estate – Tasmania, Australia

The best place to see lavender in Australia is at Bridestowe Lavender Estate in Tasmania’s northeast. It’s the largest lavender farm in the southern hemisphere, with 260 acres and an estimated 650,000 plants.
The rows stretch around 200 kilometers! Located about 45 minutes from Launceston, it is easy to get here as long as you have your own car.
This farm is open year-round, but you’ll want to visit in the blooming season. This runs during the Tasmanian summer, with the best time tending to be mid-December to mid-January although exact dates depend on temperatures and rainfall. At other times of the year, you can still learn about the cultivation process of lavender.
The farm is in a beautiful location with mountains and bush as the backdrop. There is a café on-site where you can eat a meal or just enjoy some of the specialty lavender ice creams. Guided tours are available or you can walk around at your leisure. Additionally, there is a great gift shop with everything lavender you can imagine.
During the blooming season, admission is $20 per adult, and kids are free. It’s free at other times of the year, and you can always pop by to try their café and gift shop, with everything open 10 AM – 4 PM. You can’t pick the lavender, but they are easily one of the best lavender farms in Tasmania!

Hitchin Lavender Farm – UK

Hitchin Lavender is located in Hertfordshire, just north of London. The farm is set on a slope, so the fields look incredibly picturesque.
Trains from London to Hitchin take approximately 30 minutes, making it the perfect day trip from London. From Hitchin railway station, it is a short taxi ride to the farm.
Hitchin Lavender also has wildflower meadows, sunflower fields, and a shop selling lavender-infused food and gifts. The flowers are usually in bloom from mid-June until late August.
Lavender can be picked for a small charge. Visitors must bring their own scissors, but a bag is provided. The farm is open to visitors daily in spring and summer, it costs £6 per adult, and for children over 5 is £4.50.

A North Norfolk coast highlight near King’s Lynn in East Anglia is easily the Norfolk Lavender fields. In fact, it has been a favorite destination since 1932. Easily accessible from King’s Lynn and the traditional seaside resort of Hunstanton, the historic lavender fields here provide a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the coast.
With over one hundred acres of lavender, and over one hundred different varieties of lavender being grown, wandering the fragrant fields is a real sensory pleasure, especially when the plants are in bloom during June, July, and August.
Open from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, seven days a week, Norfolk Lavender is a great place to visit year-round. Enjoy their tearooms, where you can enjoy delicious lavender-infused treats, a play area with animals for kids, tours of the fields, and the national collection of heritage lavenders!
You’re not allowed to pick the lavender, but the farm does offer lavender plants along with their own lavender products in the gift shop. One of the loveliest lavender fields in Canada is located in the region of Caledon, Ontario. Top of the list of things to do in Caledon in the summer is to visit Stonewell Lavender Farm. The farm is located just outside the small town of Erin. This family-run farm offers a personal lavender farm experience. They run small group tours where you’ll learn about the historic farmhouse, how they distill their lavender, as well as interesting facts about lavender. Then you’ll get time to spend wandering the fields.
Stonewell Lavender Farm is home to 4,000 plants, both the traditional purple varieties and white lavender. Be sure to pop by their small shop, which sells an assortment of their lavender products, like oils, dryer balls, and more, before you leave.
There are a few things you’ll need to know before you go. The ideal time to visit is in July. Tours are $10 CAD, and tickets must be purchased in advance. They don’t currently offer U-Pick, but bouquets are available for purchase.
If you’re looking for more things to do in the area, then head to Heartwood Farm & Cidery or hike the Elora-Cataract Trailway. The Busholme is a great restaurant in Erin and the Millcroft Inn & Spa is the best place to stay nearby.

Mayfield Lavender Farm – UK

Mayfield Lavender Farm is one of the most famous and popular lavender fields near London. Located South of London, in Surrey, Mayfield is open for public visits from June until September.
They keep a diary on their Facebook page, where they post each week the state of the lavender blooms. Depending on the weather, lavender is in full bloom between July and August.
Getting to Mayfield from central London is quite easy, with a train and a bus. The journey duration is about an hour. You can also drive to Mayfield, and park for free on the grounds. The entry fee to the lavender field is £4.
Mayfield has strict rules regarding their lavender. It is forbidden to pick the flowers or to have picnics between the rows of lavender. You can, however, buy dried lavender bouquets from the farm shop. They also have a shaded area under an oak tree, where they sell local products made with lavender, such as ice cream, lemonade, or biscuits.
The farm also has different props among the 25 acres of lavender fields, with which you can take photos. There is a red telephone box as well as a tractor.
They grow two varieties of Lavandula Angustifolia (English lavender) along with a hybrid variety of Lavandula x intermedia, called Grosso. Since Mayfield Lavender Farm can be visited as a day trip from London, it is best to stay in London.

Jersey Lavender Farm – Channel Islands UK

Jersey is renowned for flowers, jersey potatoes, and cows, but it’s also becoming well known for its lavender fields and lavender products.
Jersey Lavender Farm can be found in the SW corner of the island, in St Brelade (not far from Corbiere Lighthouse and the beautiful beaches at St Brelade and St Ouen.)
There’s plenty of parking, and you don’t usually need to book in advance. If you’re touring on a motorcycle, there’s somewhere to leave your helmets. Dogs and children are welcome (as long as they’re both well-behaved!)
The farm is open between May and August, and the 9 acres of lavender fields are in bloom from early June until early August. This is when you can see the huge fields full of lavender (don’t forget to take some photos for Instagram!), plus you can also tour around the distillery where they process the crop and create the lavender oil.
There are also regular talks throughout the season on how to farm lavender if you’d like to know more about the process, and you can’t miss a visit to the gift shop to purchase a deliciously-smelling souvenir or gift!
There’s also a cafe for you to relax and unwind in and some beautiful gardens to explore.
It is free to visit the cafe and shop, and costs around £5 per adult (pricing changes depending on dates) to explore the fields. Younger children are free. Opening hours are usually 10 AM – 5 PM.
You’re not allowed to pick the lavender during your visit as there’s not much of it to go around!

Finchingfield Lavender Fields and Camping – UK

Finchingfield Lavender is a small lavender field located in Essex, England. Finchingfield Village is one of the most photographed in the county. The village green and duck pond has a windmill and quaint cottages and tearooms dotted around it.
The best way to reach Finchingfield Lavender is by car, however, it is also on the local bus route. The fields are in bloom between the end of June to September. To keep the fields peaceful, a limited number of day passes are available.
Tickets are £5 per person and give you access to the fields between 9 AM to 5 PM. The entrance fee includes paper bags, the use of scissors, and a guide on how to harvest the lavender to take away. Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic and relax in the fields. There are various types of sun loungers and chairs throughout the lavender fields.
Finchingfield Lavender doesn’t allow professional photoshoots within the fields, but you are welcome to take personal photos.
Besides stunning rows of lavender, there are fully furnished stargazing lotus belle tents, perfect for those who like glamping. En-suite non-powered pitches are also available for tent camping and small camper vans. Those staying in the camping area are welcome to enjoy the lavender fields throughout their stay.

Emu Bay Lavender Farm – Australia

Emu Bay Lavender Farm is on Kangaroo Island off the coast of South Australia and is one of the best in the world. Part of the experience of the place is getting there. You will need to catch a ferry from Cape Jervis, a 2-hour drive south of the state capital, Adelaide. Its remote location makes it a special place to visit.
This working farm is in full bloom at the height of summer – January and February. But with 12 different lavender varieties, there are blossoms a couple of months on either side of peak season. You can’t pick your own lavender here, but there are lots of opportunities for lavender selfies.
The highlight of your visit here is the farm shop and café. Oils, gels, creams, and sprays are readily available for purchase. If there is a way to luxuriate in lavender, you’ll find it here. The café is a great spot for lunch, their signature giant scone with lavender jam is delicious. There is no admission fee, and they are open daily from 9 AM – 4 PM.
Emu Bay also has a stunning beach. You can drive onto the sand and find your own patch of paradise overlooking the turquoise water. From Emu Bay, you can also take a cruise to meet the island’s resident dolphin population. Stay at Emu Bay Holiday Homes. The view of the bay, garden setting, and abundant wildlife are wonderful.

Lavender Farm Tomita – Hokkaido, Japan

Located in the town of Nakafurano in Hokkaido, Japan, Farm Tomita is one of the best Lavender fields in the world. The farm first opened in 1903 with the cultivation of lavender in 1958.
The ideal time to visit the lavender fields is from the end of June to early August. Farm Tomita can be reached by road (bus or car) from Asahikawa (one hour) and from Sapporo (2 hours). Special trains called Norokko-go are available from June to August to reach the fields of lavender station. Farm Tomita is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM.
Like most lavender fields around the world, you can walk through the vast fields and view the blooms as far as your eyes can stretch. The lovely Tokachi mountain range in the background adds to the beauty of the farm.
Delicious lavender cakes and lavender ice cream are specialties at Poppy café located by the farm.
If you stay overnight in Furano (the closest town), take a scenic bus tour to the beautiful village of Biei, to enjoy its manicured flower gardens, lush green landscape, and unusual trees.

Sweethaven Lavender – Williamsburg, Virginia, USA
Another lovely lavender farm located in Virginia is Sweethaven Lavender. Located between Richmond and Virginia Beach, it makes for the perfect day trip! Opened for the season from May to July. During this time, they also offer U-pick bouquets for $8 each.
What is unique about Sweethaven Lavender is that they offer both daytime and nighttime events at their farm. During the day, you can enjoy their rows of lavender, additional gardens, farm animals, and a picnic. They also have locally churned lavender ice creams, fresh lavender baked goods, and their famous lavender lemonade and sweet tea.
On Friday nights, they have “Lavender Twilight” events where you can enjoy live music and wine from Hampton Roads Winery. You can even pre-order charcuterie and dessert boxes.

Being located in the southwest of the country near the town Isparta, Turkish Provence is known as the “place of a thousand roses” or “the flower capital of Turkey.” Such fame was given to it thanks to numerous varieties of rose bushes, local farms that grow flowers, and fragrant lavender.
To find it, you need to go about 47 km from Isparta to the village of Kuyucak, known as the “Eastern Provence.” This is the area where more than 90% of all lavender fields in Turkey grow. They bloom in early July, saturating the air with a wonderful fragrant aroma, and the flowering period lasts no more than 3 weeks.
Entering the fields is free since they are part of the village, but guests are expected to purchase lavender products like soap, perfume, shampoo, or anything else that is on offer.
The best way to reach the fields is either by car on your own or on an organized tour. The nature around Isparta is rich, so besides lavender fields, you can also visit nearby Burdur Lake, Egirdir Lake, or go farther to Afyon, the area famous for thermal pools. Find more fun tours area here!
Wanaka Lavender Farm, New Zealand

Located in New Zealand, The Wanaka Lavender Farm is one of the most beautiful lavender fields in the world.
Located in Wanaka, a small town an hour from Queenstown in New Zealand, the lavender is on a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains, and it is not as touristy or overdeveloped as Queenstown.
There is no public transport so you will need to drive. The Wanaka Lavender Farm is only a 5-minute drive from the Wanaka city centre.
Family-owned by 2 brothers, the farm opened to the public in 2014. Out of 30 acres, 20 acres are full of lavender! Throughout the fields, you can find fun photo props including a purple tractor to take Insta-worthy photos, however, no picking is allowed. Besides the flowers, there are also farm animals and more gardens to explore.
Additionally, they have a lovely farm shop and café. The café sells lavender tea and delicious lavender ice cream.
The farm is open year-round, however, the best time to visit the Wanaka Lavender Farm is between December and February. There won’t be any lavender if you go outside this time, but it’s still worth going to the café and shop and visiting the other gardens. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children during the lavender season.
While in the area, there are lots of lovely walks in Wanaka so it’s worth staying in Wanaka for a couple of days. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in Wanaka, the Edgewater Hotel is a popular option in Wanaka.

Hidden Spring Lavender & Alpaca Farm – New Jersey, USA
If you love lavender fields and hanging out with cute Alpacas, then head over to the Hidden Spring Lavender & Alpaca Farm located in the Montgomery Township, New Jersey! The farm is family-owned, and they planted their first lavender bushes around 14 years ago. They now grow 15 different types of lavender.
On top of that, the farm is free to visit. However, make sure you are only coming during business houses. Additionally, for $20 USD, you can walk an alpaca. They also offer professional photoshoots in the lavender fields for $175 an hour.

Cape Cod Lavender Farm – Massachusetts, USA
Another great lavender farm on the east coast of the USA is the Cape Cod Lavender Farm! This family-owned farm is celebrating its 27th year. Sitting on 11 acres, the farm has over 7,000 lavender plants to enjoy.
Located about an hour and a half outside of Boston, the best way to visit the farm is by car. Cape Cod is a great place for a weekend getaway or a day trip. Additionally, it is free to visit the farm, and they are open March-December.
The best time to visit is between late June to mid-July (peak bloom). While there, make sure to check out their gift shop and try some of their famous lavender lemonade!
The Cape Cod area is super popular to visit during the summer for its lovely beaches and great seafood!

123 Farm & Highland Springs Ranch & Inn – Southern California, USA
Located a little over 30 minutes from Palm Springs, California, and 1 and a half hours from Joshua Tree National Park, 123 Farm is Southern California’s largest lavender farm.
Each year to celebrate their lavender bloom, they host a lavender festival that invites visitors to enjoy their 20 acres of lavender. The festival is usually from early May to the end of July when their bloom ends.
You can not pick the lavender during your visit, but they do offer guided tours, in horse-drawn hay wagons, live music, and lavender-inspired dishes. Some favorites include their lavender lemonade and lavender ice cream.
It is important to check their calendar before getting your ticket, which can be purchased here. You will notice that some days are free admission for everyone!
The only real way to get to 123 Farm is by car. There is a parking fee of $10 USD.
While in the area, exploring Palm Springs, taking a day trip to Joshua Tree, spending a day in Death Valley, or spending 3 days in San Diego are all on the table when visiting 123 Farm!

What to Expect When Visiting Lavender Farms
Now that you know some of the most beautiful lavender fields around the world, here is some practical information and tips to know before visiting!
- Lavender blooms in the summer months and is usually planted in full sun. When you visit make sure to bring sunscreen (my go-to is Juice Beauty or Blue Lizzard Chemical Free), a sun hat, and water if the farm allows.
- Lavender along with many other flowers attracts bugs. You will likely see bees, butterflies, and grasshoppers doing their thing. They are there for flowers, not you, so be kind and don’t swat at them.
- Wear comfortable, close-toed shoes. Many of the lavender farms and fields have uneven ground and it gets muddy and dirty. This also means don’t wear your favorite shoes.
- Make sure to stay on the path and do not step or walk on the flowers. This allows everyone to enjoy them!
- If the farm allows, don’t forget to pack your picnic blanket and some snacks.
- Do not show up at farms when closed.
